We are pleased to announce that as part of the activities of the Department of Reproductive Biotechnology and Cryoconservation, two centres with the following identification numbers have been registered:
• 12062101 – Canine semen collection and processing centre
• 12062306 – Biological material storage centre – canine semen
A team of experts in biology and zootechnics will soon be providing specialist services for the collection and quality assessment of semen from these unique companion animals.
Thanks to the scientific staff’s many years of experience in the cryoconservation of biological material, it will be possible to secure semen from individuals with unique phenotypic and genotypic characteristics – with a view to preserving their genetic potential.
Cryoconservation is the process of freezing semen in liquid nitrogen (approx. -196°C), which allows for:
• long-term storage of sperm without loss of quality
• preserving valuable genetic lines
• insemination at a later date – even after the death of the male
• shipping semen abroad without the need to transport the animal (eliminating travel-related stress)
