On 13–14 July 2024, the 11th Podhale Breeding Animal Exhibition was held in Ludźmierz, co-organized by the National Research Institute of Animal Production. This year’s event attracted numerous livestock breeders, agricultural equipment exhibitors, representatives of agriculture-related institutions and dairy producers.

During the first day of the exhibition, animal evaluations were held, including beef cattle, dairy cattle, horses, goats and rabbits. Cattle, sheep and goat evaluation competitions were held in specially prepared rings, and the titles of champions and super-champions were awarded. The National Research Institute of Animal Production, at its stand, organized a workshop entitled “How butter is made” and cheese-making demonstrations, which attracted numerous participants, including families with children. The workshop was conducted by an experienced breeder of Polish Red-and-White cows, Andrzej Lassak.

On the second day of the exhibition, after a solemn Mass for the intention of breeders in the Basilica in Ludźmierz, the official part of the event began. The Director of the National Research Institute of Animal Production, Dr Eng. Tomasz Jacek, presented awards to the champions in the Polish Red, Polish Red-and-White and Polish Black-and-White cow breeds. Breeders of the oldest representatives of these breeds were also honoured, as well as breeders of sheep, goats and horses who presented their animals.

The National Research Institute of Animal Production presented a number of publications related to native breeds of farm animals. Specialists from the Department of Farm Animal Biodiversity Conservation and Horse Breeding introduced the youngest guests of the exhibition to the topic of biodiversity. All participants had the opportunity to taste dishes and products made from raw materials of native breeds. The exhibition was enhanced by demonstrations by young breeders, a sheep shearing show and a horse team competition. The Institute was proud to support the event, promoting breeding heritage and livestock biodiversity education. We would like to thank all participants for their involvement and for celebrating the achievements of Polish animal breeding together.
