On 22–23 June 2024, the Agricultural Fair “In the Heart of Poland” was held at the Łódź Agricultural Advisory Centre, which included the 12th National Breeding Cattle Exhibition and the Provincial Breeding Animal Exhibition.
The cattle show featured Polish Holstein-Friesian (PHF) heifers of the HO (Black-and-White) variety in six categories and one category of PHF heifers of the RW (Red-and-White) variety. The super champion in the heifer category was the Osięcinka PL005480160749 from the “Głogówek” Pedigree Breeding Centre Ltd. Three categories of PHF cows of the HO variety and two of the RW variety were also presented. The super champion in the cow category was Rubicon Elka PL005323462429 from the breeding of Przedsiębiorstwo Rolniczo-Hodowlane “Gałopol” Sp. z o.o. in Gałowo.
In the group of so-called “colour breeds”, cows of the Polish Red, Jersey, Simmental and White-backed breeds were presented. The champion in the Polish Red breed was Malina PL005328555614 belonging to the breeding of Krzysztof Zagata from Gronków. She was also the oldest cow in the breed presented at the show and received a commemorative statuette from the National Research Institute of Animal Production.
The champion in the Jersey breed was the cow Aardema PL005476307912 bred by OHZ Garzyn Sp. z o.o. and in the Simmental breed it was the cow Ambrose 11 PL005333341318 bred by Stud Farm Pępowo Sp. z o.o. This cow was also elected Super Champion among the colour breeds.
In the White-backed breed, the champion was Kalina PL005409318169 from the breeding of Krzysztof Boguski of Jawor Solecki. From the same farm was also the oldest presented cow in this breed – Relka PL005289093705, which was elected vice champion and awarded a statue by the Institute.
As part of the exhibition of the Provincial Breeding Animal Exhibition, visitors could see a large representation of sheep, including Blackheaded, Polish Whiteheaded Mutton, lowland sheep of the Żelaźnieńska variety, Corriedale and Świniarka sheep. There were also horses, primarily cold-blooded breeds, goats and small livestock – rabbits and landfowl. At the Institute’s stand it was possible to get acquainted with the latest publications, obtain information on current activities and ongoing projects.
