On 19 March 2024, the National Research Institute of Animal Production hosted a group of students and teachers from the Agricultural Training Centre School Complex in Bydgoszcz. During the visit to both Balice and Aleksandrowice, the students had the opportunity to learn about the diverse range of work carried out at the Institute and the subject of native breeds of farm animals. The Director for Science, Professor Sylwester Świątkiewicz, Ph.D., discussed in detail the wide range of the Institute’s activities, presenting both the main research areas, scientific achievements and the educational offer of the experimental stations. At the farm in Aleksandrowice, Zuzanna Siudak, M.Sc. Eng., Dr Eng. Joanna Obrzut, and Dr Eng. Michał Puchała presented issues related to the rearing and breeding of indigenous breeds of livestock – rabbits, poultry, sheep and goats. The culminating point of the visit was participation in a workshop on the evaluation of farm animal semen and cryopreservation methods, prepared and conducted by a team of Monika Trzcińska, Ph.D., Professor of NRIAP, Dr Magdalena Bryła, Małgorzata Kralka-Tabak, M.Sc. Eng., and Andrzej Kuźma. Pupils were able to see, and even take part in, the process of collecting cock semen, evaluating it and freezing it. The National Research Institute of Animal Production also provided the Agricultural Training Centre School Complex in Bydgoszcz with a set of dissemination materials, publications, brochures and an educational offer for agricultural schools.
