On 24–25 June 2023, on the premises of the Klikowa Refuge for Polish Horses in Klikowa near Tarnów, the Małopolski Horse Festival, the 16th Regional Breeding Championship of the Małopolski Horses, was held.
Małopolski horses were evaluated in five categories: yearling colts, yearling fillies, two-year-old stallions, two-year-old mares and three-year-old mares. The National Research Institute of Animal Production was one of the co-organizers of the event. For this reason, it funded two cups for the champion and vice-champion in the two-year-old stallion category. Furthermore, as is already customary, two prizes were awarded by the Director of the National Research Institute of Animal Production, as the national coordinator for the conservation of genetic resources, for the best stallion and the best mare in the Małopolski type. This award has functioned in the equine community for about 20 years and enjoys great prestige among breeders of native breed horses. This year it was awarded to the two-year-old Małopolski stallion LIGIERO AA, owned by Sylwester Szatan Stud in Udórz (Kaliś), and the two-year-old Małopolski mare SISI AA owned by Bogdan Śliż. The stallion LIGIERO AA was also selected as the Best Horse of the Show, the so-called “BEST IN SHOW”.
