As the first term of the Council for Scientific Excellence (CED) was coming to an end, elections of CED members for the next 4-year term were held this year. The vote, which was open to holders of a postdoctoral or professorial degree, was held in September this year. We are pleased to announce that Prof. Sylwester Świątkiewicz, Ph.D., Deputy Director for Science of our Institute, has been elected as a member of Team IV of Agricultural Sciences of the CED, where he will represent the scientific discipline of animal husbandry and fisheries. The Council for Scientific Excellence, a body established in place of the Central Commission for Degrees and Titles, acts to ensure the development of scientific staff in accordance with the highest standards required to obtain scientific degrees, degrees in the arts and the title of professor, acting, as far as the proceedings are concerned, as a central body of government administration. The most important tasks of the CED include: conducting proceedings for the conferment of the title of professor, cooperating in proceedings for the conferment of the degree of habilitation with postdoctoral entities, appointing postdoctoral and habilitation entities to conduct proceedings for scientific promotion, exercising supervision over postdoctoral and habilitation entities. In addition, the CED acts as a body of second instance in proceedings for the awarding of doctoral and postdoctoral degrees, as well as supervising doctoral and postdoctoral entities.
