On 20 November 2025, under the patronage of the National Research Institute of Animal Production in Balice, a scientific seminar entitled “Modern techniques for determining the welfare of animals covered by the genetic resources conservation programme” was held. The event was organized at the Agricultural Education Centre School Complex in Nowosielce and at the Experimental Station of the National Research Institute of Animal Production in Odrzechowa.
The seminar was held as part of the task “Dissemination of the latest knowledge and information on livestock breeding in sustainable production conditions, including the dissemination of good practices in this area”.
The meeting was attended by pupils of the agricultural school and researchers from the National Research Institute of Animal Production. The topics covered included programmes for the genetic resources conservation of small ruminants and Hucul horses, as well as issues related to the welfare of small ruminants. Presentations were given by Institute employees: Jacek Sikora, PhD Eng. (Department of Sheep and Goat Breeding of the NRIAP) and Oliwia Szczęsna, MSc (Experimental Station of the NRIAP in Odrzechowa).
Later in the seminar, a large group of pupils went to the Experimental Station of the National Research Institute of Animal Production in Odrzechowa, where field classes were held. The participants were divided into two groups. The first group assessed the effectiveness of goat mating by performing ultrasound pregnancy tests, measuring the body weight of goats in the herd, and taking zoometric measurements.
The second group visited the stables, assessing the welfare and health of Hucul horses, and then learned about the conditions of keeping Simmental cows in traditional and modern barns. The meeting was hosted by Władysław Brejta, PhD Eng. (President of the Experimental Station of the NRIAP in Odrzechowa), and Sławomir Jurkowski, MSc Eng. (Experimental Station of the NRIAP in Odrzechowa).
