From 5 to 11 November 2023, a group of employees of the National Research Institute of Animal Production made an inspiring trip to centres in the Netherlands and Germany, characterized by high levels of animal welfare.
The trip was related to the implementation of task no. A17 (503-181-709) entitled “Monitoring of livestock housing conditions with consideration of the analysis of the potential for implementing in Polish conditions of breeding methods aimed at ensuring increased animal welfare”. One of the key objectives of this task is to analyse data on livestock housing systems used in EU countries to ensure higher levels of animal welfare. Visiting research and development centres, training centres and farms in Germany and the Netherlands, contributed to the deepening of knowledge of scientists of the National Research Institute of Animal Production, which in the future will provide a good basis for the implementation of research topics in the field of animal welfare, and through knowledge transfer, will be a source of inspiration for Polish producers to implement on a larger scale more animal-friendly solutions.
