The operation entitled “Cheesemaking as an opportunity for breeders of native breeds of cattle – 2nd edition”, is co-financed by the European Union under Scheme II of the Technical Assistance “National Rural Network” of the Rural Development Programme 2014–2020.

Objective of the project:

The aim of the operation is to provide the participants in the operation with the knowledge and skills necessary to start or develop the production and sale of cheeses from the milk of the Polish Red-and-White and Polish Red conservation breeds of cows, and to help promote the products made by organizing a promotional event.

Activities undertaken as part of the operation:

  • Workshops on the production and sale of cheeses from the milk of cows of conservation breeds aimed at breeders of cattle of the Polish Red-and-White and Polish Red breeds, as well as at persons interested in making cheese from the milk of cows of these breeds (they will declare their willingness to collect milk of cows of conservation breeds from their producers). During the workshops, the knowledge necessary to start producing their own cheeses and marketing them will be imparted. Four editions of the workshop are planned – three for beginners, one for advanced.
  • An event to promote cheeses made from the milk of conservation breeds of cows. During the event, organized cyclically (once a month) by the Tarnów Regional Development Agency S.A. Regional Market, a space will be set aside for project participants (who have previously taken part in workshops) so that they can gain their first experience in selling the products they have made. The event will also be attended by experts who, while on duty, will share their knowledge with fair visitors on programmes for the protection of rare breeds of livestock, particularly conservation breeds of cattle.
  • Competition for the most professional cheesemaker. The winner will receive a cash prize (PLN 1,500.00) and a prize winner will be selected from among those who voted – a shopping voucher worth PLN 500.
  • An art competition for children participating in the event. The winner of the prize – a 500 zloty shopping voucher to a children’s shop – will be selected among the children participating in the competition. Other children will be given plush cow mascots and fudge sweets.

Anticipated results of the operation:

Training of 40 people from the target group in cheese-making using milk from conservation breeds of cows.
